One Last Chance: Trapped by a Blowdown

Two teens embark on their first extended portage trip into wilds of Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Wonderful weather, a four day weekend, and a newly acquired canoe complete the recipe for a fun filled break.

Minor mistakes made early in the outing slow the pair’s progress. But those problems seem slight after Mother Nature pulls a nasty October prank. What should have been an enjoyable outdoor experience suddenly turns into a life and death survival test.

Here's what readers are saying about “Winter Chance”

Amazon.com book reviewer: D.W.McDougall (October 22, 2003)
An outdoor experience for any age! Readers of all ages will enjoy this story filled with action, mystery and suspense. A young man facing ever changing obstacles in the winter forest shows resilience and creativity in meeting life threatening challenges. As a seasoned outdoorsman I expected this book would be hard to put down. I observed my wife who is not an outdoorsman as she read cover to cover in record time. She experienced many strong emotions and enjoyed the book from a parent's perspective.

BarnesandNoble.com reviewer: an AP language Arts student (September 25, 2003)
One of the greatest books I have read! This is an exciting adventure novel about one young man working with an injured yearling wolf to save each other in the rugged terrain of the Boundary Waters. Ron Gamer combined a great writing style and his great imagination to leave the reader wanting more. Truly the best adventure story that I have read.

Wild Chance:
Whitewater Awakening

Wild Chance opens near the edge of the Boundary Waters—on an old wooden pier jutting into Devil Track Lake. Seth and Travis are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a pontoon plane. The boys are about to experience their first Canadian fly-in fishing trip. But to their shock and disappointment, when the plane taxis to the dock, a passenger seat is already occupied by a girl!

Luckily, they learn she's scheduled to be dropped off at a wilderness resort, which is especially good news given her disposition. After a quick stop to refuel and register with customs, the plane is once again winging north. Except that the sky slowly makes an alteration—from color crayon blue to irritated gray.

Eventually the change is so complete the pilot is forced to seek shelter on one of the many lakes. Shortly thereafter, the teens find themselves in the throes of a harrowing exploit including more serious weather, a medical emergency and the continual character conflicts as the three teens struggle with the elements, all the while scheming on how to best return to civilization.

Here's what readers are saying about “Wild Chance”

Amazon reviewer, Karlajean Becvar, MN: “I have taught Ron Gamer’s 2nd novel to my English students the past few years and can say this title is another winner! Filled with rich characters and superfluous examples of poetic technique, it’s definitely a book that’s hard to put down!”

Amazon reviewer, “Teacher and book lover”, San Diego: “Kids who love outdoor adventure will enjoy following the survival tales by Ron Gamer. I truly enjoyed the books . . . and have passed the first two books on to some of my students as well as adventure loving adults.”

Hidden Chance: Secrets of the Hermit’s Hideaway

A strange little masked man, a three legged pooch, and a secret stash of stolen wares lure three teens into a lighthearted hunt for answers. But when Travis and Jessie’s new pilot friend, Buddy, fails to return in his ultra-light, solving the mystery suddenly carries a life or death price tag.

Yet even with the likes of bears, bikes, boats, and even a beat-up ATV, Hidden Chance is more than an outdoor adventure mystery. The story’s subtle embedded life lessons will make perfect fodder for engaging classroom discussions.
